The Challenge: Lack of Real-Time, Mobile-Friendly Functionality

Historically, Six Flags relied on artistically drawn, static, PDF maps for guests to navigate their parks. These maps lacked real-time functionality and proved difficult to use. Guests often found themselves confused about park distances and with a lack of context regarding ride locations and amenities.
Six Flags wanted to provide a modern, intuitive solution that would make it easy for visitors to plan their trips, navigate the parks, and enhance their overall experience. Specifically, they aimed to:

A Mobile-Friendly, Elevated Solution

Six Flags partnered with Concept3D to create an interactive, 3D-enabled map solution integrated directly into the Six Flags mobile app. Concept3D developed highly detailed, visually rich maps that accurately represented each park’s layout, capturing the artistic appeal while providing real-world functionality. The new maps included several key features designed to address Six Flags’ initial goals:

Blue Dot Wayfinding: 

Guests can see their real-time location within the park and receive turn-by-turn navigation to attractions, restrooms, food, and retail locations.

Customizable Event Maps

Themed maps were introduced for seasonal events like Fright Fest and Holiday in the Park, allowing Six Flags to adapt the guest experience based on current park events.

Accessibility Options: 

The maps included routes for wheelchairs, strollers and designated rest areas, ensuring a more inclusive experience for all guests.

Data Analytics: 

Concept3D’s solution provided Six Flags with a dashboard powered by Google Analytics to track how guests interact with the maps. This data helps the parks identify popular attractions, search patterns, and areas for improvement.

Results and Impact:

Since launching, the maps have been an overwhelming success, with over 4 million unique users and 23 million park views across all locations just in the past year. The Magic Mountain park in California alone recorded 5.6 million map views. Additional wins include:
